Ashleigh and Killian planned their wedding on the west coast of Ireland in Galway, my morning started with preps at the beautiful setting of the Salthill Hotel on the Prom in Galway, the sun was shining, a glorious August morning, a great start to the day.  Taking care of Ashleigh and the girls hair was the talented and award winning Siobhan Moran of LS Hair in Westport County Mayo.  I have worked with Siobhan on numerous occasions, always a great banter and this lady has some styles up her sleeve!  For the morning I was between Ashleigh’s preps and since Killian was getting ready in the hotel also it allowed a few quick moments for his preps too!  I love when a couple has an insight into what they want from parts of their day.  This couple had asked me if it was possible to do a “first touch” or a series of photos where they were pretty much beside each other but couldn’t see each other!  This involved a little bit of organisation but went off without a hitch and I can only imagine what runs through heads as they can probably sense how close they are to each other but can’t see.  I was a little skeptical as to whether they might catch a glimpse in a badly placed mirror or window but as it happened I used a mirror in a hallway to the advantage of some of these shots!  Feedback from the couple is that these were some of their favorites of the day and they loved the fact they done it!  As most of my work tends to lead toward a photojournalistic or catch as it happens style of images, the likes of this does have to come with a little word in my ear to make it work, but i’m more than happy to try idea’s.  I’m so glad we done these!

Hit for the church where another regular meet of mine was officiating and was actually on time this time! 😉  Fr McDonnell, or Fr Charlie as he is locally known was at the door of the church with his usual smile and welcome! 😉  Filling the air while I brought my gear inside was the vocals of Ciaran O’ Malley, that plays alongside Lisa and go by the name of Ciaran & Lisa Music, check them out on facebook, well worth a listen!  Ciaran wasn’t the only one taking to the mic.  Killian is known around Westport and Mayo for his music and you would often find him playing in many a pub or club in the county.  Killian performed the current Ed Sheeran hit “perfect” just after his nuptials and serenaded his beautiful bride to rapturous rounds of applause and a couple of tears from Ashleighs dad and big sis Leanne!

After the blessings and handshakes, the happy couple took to the skies to take their maiden flight as hubbie and wife in to the docks in Galway, with the usual galway traffic in the middle of August, myself and the videographer Fionn hit off back to the hotel to make it before the newly weds, and we did, just about!

We hit up the location about 20 yards from the door of the hotel, a beautiful garden with lots going on for the bridal party shoot as well as some portraits and made our way into the reception.  Drinks flowing, and music a feature again I find myself floating for what is left of the drinks reception to catch some informal shots of guests and some details.  On with speeches and just as they were finishing I could see through the front window a beautiful red and blue summer sky across galway bay.  I couldn’t resist but suggest to get a couple of dramatic portraits down along the prom, and the idea was snapped up, down we went and the light was gorgeous.  All that was left was first dance and I was done for another day…
